About this deal

A previous film featuring the minions had already done the 1980s, so another louder decade was obviously gonna be put on notice.

The Minions proved far more popular than Gru ever could have on his own, and they provided a marketing bonanza that would make any studio merchandising department salivate. Minions: The Rise of Gru is silly fun, taking full advantage of modern animation technology, and generally being a stupid and silly bit of cotton candy entertainment. The film’s large battle in the finale features flames and mini explosions that sparkle against the night sky and shadowy backgrounds of the city. So, as you can see, I am a fan and, looked forward to seeing what Minions: The Rise of Gru had under the hood. The artists took full advantage of the Seventies setting to go wild with the color design, and thanks to the wide color gamut that HDR provides, there’s a dazzling array of bold colors and subtle shadings on display here. While Minions is slightly uneven and doesn't resonate like the films that inspired it, Kevin, Stuart, and little Bob exude fun loving charm, which combines with the film's Minion inspired antics to make for a mildly entertaining evening for the whole family. The minions are back, and while they’re the “main” focus of the movie, are also sharing screen time with an 11 and ¾ year old Gru (Steve Carrell again) in another wild adventure.

The Bold New Take on The Beloved Classic “The Color Purple” Debuts on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD March 12th! Minions: The Rise of Gru is the kind of title that inadvertently demonstrates the way that the Despicable Me franchise has evolved over the years.

The first film was a sizable hit in 2010, and that guaranteed that there will be a string of follow-ups for as long as the box office keeps holding out. He’s been accompanied on that journey by his incompetent but loyal assistants, the Minions, and that’s where the series has taken a left turn. While this is not what I would regard as an aggressive Atmos mix, it is an active one, that complimented the source material and made for an entertaining listening experience. Minion Marital Arts looks at the way that comedic martial artists like Jackie Chan and Stephen Chow influenced the Minion style of Kung Fu in the film.
