You might also consider monitoring your PC by using a ping from the RPi, say every 5 minutes and if there is no response repeat the ping and if still no response, run the reset sequence. Using the crontab in Linux is an easy way to run a script/program at set intervals. Ive had a Pi since the first batch ever rolled off of the production line, but it generally sits in my cupboard Im a Linux noob really and it has given me some great insights but found it generally a pain to use as a desktop OS. My question is: Who does turn their PC off pressing the button ??? I havent pressed that button for years, i use "shut down" in Windows menu. I'm thinking I can detach the case buttons as I wont need these, and I can attach the motherboard headers to the GPIO pins on the Pi.

Wether you need more power to run extra components, or you're just looking to test some things outside of your case, it's sometimes needed to turn on a power supply without having it connected to your system. How did you achieve that? I use RDP, TeamViewer, and VPN pretty frequently and have run into the same thing. There's a guide on another forum that I'm in the process of starting up. Pi-powered webserver operating the power button via an opto-isolator. Those switches are typically far too sensitive for this use. For PC power, door exit motion controls are a much better option. Many of these switches have proximity settings that will let you set them to be actuated only by something within a couple of inches of the switch. Wave you hand near it to turn it on or off.
Excellent for sleek low-key mods, a magnetic switch can be completely hidden inside the case, and turned on manually with a magnet. Momentary" Toggle Switch replaces Main Power or Reset switch on PC. Type: On/Off 2 Pin Wire Connection. Power: 125V, 20 AMPS Im using the desktop PC's LED + and - headers on the motherboard as this usually connects to an LED which is on when the PC is obbted up, and off when not. Last, connect the relays to the motherboard power pins, run the command again and hope I don't kill anything!

Before you begin, make sure your PSU is powered off and unplugged. Please keep in mind, that capacitors inside your PSU store enough current to kill (or at least make you feel uncomfortable). While we will not be working inside your PSU, keep safety in mind. The 'high' wire is connected to the collector and the ground wire is connected to the emitter of the transistor.
