About this deal

Steinbeck based the novella on his own experiences working alongside migrant farm workers as a teenager in the 1910s, before the arrival of the Okies that he would describe in his novel The Grapes of Wrath. Lenny and Benny is richly illustrated with whimsical and deceptively simple blue-and-red line drawings that are bursting with detail. Lennie wanders into the stable, and chats with Crooks, the bitter, yet educated stable buck, who is isolated from the other workers due to being black. Of Mice and Men was adapted by Donna Franceschild as a radio play directed by Kirsty Williams starring David Tennant and Liam Brennan broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on 7 March 2010. There is a definite thirst for knowledge despite every adversity thrown at the family: serious illness, poverty and separation.

Sounds like a good read, and approaching the difficult bits by way of graphic form is a clever way to deal with stuff you feel uncomfortable covering in writing. Threaded throughout the story is the arrival of the encyclopedia supplements, which the family has won as a prize. It is a beautiful account of how many problems a child can face, but given the right support, can thrive and enjoy starting or moving school.

Upon hearing the lynch mob near them, George shoots Lennie, knowing it to be a more merciful death than that at the hands of a mob.Even the title of the novel itself references this "the title is, of course, a fragment from the poem lay Robert Burns, which gives emphasis to the idea of the futility of human endeavor or the vanity of human wishes". He was made an Officer of Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by French cultural minister, Frederic Mitterrand, in Paris. Overall, the great thing about families, whatever their makeup, is that they help us through the difficult times. In a deeply personal text, Lenny Kravitz speaks candidly about his inner world during his explosive rise to fame. It I'd a dual timeline story which helps in understand now the characters and story line develop into this wonderful book.

This charming tale, which features a mixed-race family, is ideal to share with toddlers, and is sure to prompt their own game of hide-and-seek. If you have a tween lover of reality fiction on your hands, grab a copy of Lenny’s book stat, then check out this review of Kate DiCamillo’s Raymie Nightingale. Lenny's younger brother has a rare form of gigantism and while Lenny's fiercely protective, it isn't always easy being the sister of 'the giant'. Through the encyclopedia, Lenny and Davey experience the wonders of the world - beetles, birds, quasars, quartz - and dream about a life of freedom and adventure.I think I loved anything that had an adventure in it; from fairy tales like The Snow Queen to Frank M Baum’s Wizard of Oz books to The Neverending Story by Michael Ende.
