The carry bag houses the speaker array itself and a spacing section or pole that sits between sub and top speakers. Putting the three pieces of the Evolve 50M together is extremely easy — it takes longer to unzip the carrying case and remove the array and pole than it does to connect them together. I particularly like the magnetic assist feature, mainly because it obviated the need for any heavy‑duty mechanical or electrical coupling which, on some systems, can present problems when trying to pull the pieces apart. The EV system works really well and it’s hard to imagine an easier method that would actually work. As far as I can tell, the array section can’t be coupled directly to the base unit, so the spacer pole has to be used. I believe that a shorter section is available as an optional extra, and this would be useful in some applications, for example if the Evolve 50M were being used as a close‑up monitor for say, piano, or for small‑group AV applications. All in all, assembling the Evolve 50M is about as clumsy‑proof and easy as it gets, short of having a built‑in robot pop out of a little hatch and do it for you. The Mixer For starters, it has a built-in J-curve, the sort of curved bottom system techs will induce into a concert line array to cover the floor while still projecting into the stands. Great when the rig is flown four storeys into the air, but when the whole thing stands barely over two metres tall, that bottom lip is just pointing straight at your feet. EV says it’s for when you have the PA up on a stage, with a shorter pole coming to compensate. It still doesn’t account for the 90% of the time the thing sits on the floor. Thankfully it didn’t adversely affect the PA’s definition, and the curve does form a nice bow shape, with a large carry handle like a string connecting the two ends of the stave. Ergonomically designed handles on both the array and the sub to enhance portability. Angled interface gives user easy access to make adjustments and connections on input panel.

High and mid frequencies are handled via an 825mm-tall aluminium column housing eight 3.5-inch neodymium-cone drivers. The bottom third of the column is angled downwards to ensure even coverage near the front. The geometry of the column provides a 120 x 40-degree (horizontal x vertical) dispersion pattern to concentrate the sound where it is most needed. A handle is built into the rear of the column and both the column and its 929mm support pole are supplied in a robust, zip-up carry case that also provides room for cables. TEETH TO IT EV50M is a super high quality product, works very well and reliably. For about a month of use, I've never had such a single failure on anything with this system (unlike e.g. JBL). Easy Transport & Setup The Evolve 50M has far too many settings, features and user options to go into here, but I did experiment with the overall system EQ presets (the ‘Mode’ setting), which offer a choice between Live, Speech, Club and the default Music mode.
