About this deal

A lot of people see the sadism and the lascivous sex as the trademark of Sade's work, others walk away having a different perspective on life in general. One last point, I think the Dialogue between a priest and a dying man is one of the most thought provoking pieces I have ever read. Born during the dour administration of Oliver Cromwell's Puritan Commonwealth, he came of age just in time for the Resotation of monarchy, sexual excess and extravagance, and his attitude in word and deed as to libertine sexuality was "cavalier" in the extreme. Thanks to its timeless design, the cabinet can be effortlessly integrated into your home and is guaranteed to look good in any room.

I personally do not believe that sex needs to involve pain, nor do I believe that homosexuality is normal. You not only get "Justine" and "Philosophy in the Bedroom", there are many shorter works and a collection of De Sade's letters. This Volume Contains Philosophy In The Bedroom, A Major Novel That Presents The Clearest Summation Of His Political Philosophy; Eugénie De Franval, A Novella Widely Considered To Be A Masterpiece Of Eighteenth-Century French Literature; And The Only Authentic And Complete American Edition Of His Most Famous Work, Justine.I will admit the homosexuality brought up in the writing caught me off guard at first, for it was unexpected. The 2-door sideboard presents itself in a trendy Scandinavian living style and impresses with its easy-care surfaces and modern look. A poor condition book can still make a good reading copy but is generally not collectible unless the item is very scarce. He describes their crimes with such pornographic and bestial detail, makes his criminals so much wiser than their victims, that it just seems clear to me that they are the heroes.

I have not actually finished Juliette, but I have read the other two - Juliette is incredibly long and I find the "philosophy" to be repetitive and the horrible sexual bits get.

I will say this about the introductory material though, the section with the historical time-line was superb. Thanks to the timeless design, the sideboard can be effortlessly integrated into your home and is guaranteed to look good in any room. It lends an elegant feel, which is mostly due to its traditional styling and high gloss and mirror finish. This literary portrait of Sade is completed by one of his earliest philosophical efforts, Dialogue between a Priest and a Dying Man, a selection of his letters, a fifty-page chronology of his life, two important essays on Sade, and a bibliography of his work. All of these paint a picture of a man and a philosophy that was at least 150 years ahead of the morals and thought of his period.

The savage is not noble in any sense that we might recognize; he is merely a bundle of appetites, and he waits just below the patina of civilization for any chance to sate his lusts. In the end, de Sade is someone who needs to be read, if only to gain an understanding of the extremes of philosophy. Not so in the 20th century, though I don't think sadistic pleasure has fully outdone Sade yet, because he set a pretty strong precedent. If the dispensable horrors in Philosophy in the Bedroom and Justine are meant to be satire or reverse psychology, Sade is absolutely awful at it.His influence on some of the greatest minds of the last century--from Baudelaire and Swinburne to Nietzsche, Dostoyevsky and Kafka--is indisputable. I would not like to hurt anyone's feelings by comparing the Gospel of Good with the most ingenious, and also the most extensive, of all Gospels of Evil which a clear-minded and eminently sane rebel once composed. Bataille is, in many ways, similar to Sade (to include his own widespread rejection for similar reasons as those indicated above), but more overtly articulates the significance and meaning of transgression and the erotic 'perverse,' both in the fictional text and in one's 'real' life. On every page, in every line, this book implies something never flatly stated, but which intrigues and involves us all the more on that account.

It has sometimes been maintained that to all his novels there is a single key, and that it is cruelty (and that, I would maintain, is to take a simple view of them). A mallet or hammer, a couple of Philips screwdrivers, a braddle and a drill and wood bit, pencil, tape measure and a square, and some good flat pack knowledge. Irc, it was a footnote buried somewhere in a discussion of Hegel's thesis about absolute recoil in relation to the transition into the philosophy of nature. The discusions on philosophy, such as the philosophy of crime leading to true freedom is quite a bit more interesting to me as I am more interested in philosophy in general. Many a famous work owes its value — and in any case its renown — to the incorporation of an intricate system of literary allusions. There is in literature a freemasonry of pleasure, whose winks and nods and half-spoken enticements and ellipses are known to all its members. But Justine is only the first part of what he ultimately envisioned--Juliette is the second part of La Nouvelle Justine.
