About this deal

In Colony, a television series, the resistance movement uses a book cipher to communicate between members of the cells. I didn't mind that the different love stories weren't dwelled much into because this isn't a romance novel in the first place. I did have a chuckle at a nurse heading off to get a newborn baby some Carnation Milk of all things then I also looked up the "water tower" speech.

In The Darwin Code by J D Welch, Jess uses a Shakespearean speech to construct a book cipher to communicate with an enemy who may or may not be an ally. She’s a narrator and bystander, and holds the key to a secret but doesn’t really feature as prominently as one would expect. In The Valley of Fear, Sherlock Holmes decrypts a message enciphered with a book cipher by deducing which book had been used as a key text. Thus, a spy wishing to send information about troop movements and numbers of armaments would be unlikely to find a cookbook or romance novel useful keys.I always enjoy stories set in dual timelines and sit there trying to figure out who might be related to who in each era, though I am usually way off track. But I was ok with the ending for the most part, probably because the POV shift made me not care so much. Kathryn Hughes’ The Key is a historical novel with genuine heart, packing an emotional punch with its story of life in a 1950’s lunatic asylum from both the perspective of the nurses and the patients. Of course, the fact I thought that is an indication I was enjoying the events unfolding before me, so despite my whingeing there’s a lot I enjoyed about this book.

Sarah is drawn to the abandoned Ambergate Asylum and whilst exploring the old corridors she discovers a suitcase in an attic belonging to a female patient who was admitted to the asylum fifty years earlier. He was this sweet boy, who was suffering his hole life from the effects of what happened to his family, especially to his sister. His attraction to Neriah was so unnatural that I couldn't really understand why he was infatuated with her. Claro que esto último, depende, you know, los Imperios duraron muchos años y tal, pero you know what I mean.

The police later discover which book Lecter was actually using, and he has given the man the home address of an FBI profiler, Will Graham, and warned the man to kill Graham.

The protagonists of the Matthew Reilly novel The Six Sacred Stones used a book cipher to send confidential messages to each other. Part of the house couldn’t be salvaged, so the new homeowners “ripped out” the back of the home and replaced it with a glass and steel structure. I absolutely loved this heart-racing adventure which I genuinely could not put down as I was transported between a newly free Krasnia to the most fascinating and richly described world of the Hinterland. She describes the job, the family, and the house, escalating the dread and fear as the story progresses. This is a stunning, gripping story that swept me into a wonderfully intricate world and took me on an unforgettable adventure … a must-read for 9+.
