About this deal

this book told me about paper types that I’ve never heard of before. I was searching the internet for different suppliers, looking for various types. What I received was an introduction to such an extraordinary world, from a very passionate author.. So I call it a great success! The Art of Papercraft Unique One-Sheet Projects Using Origami, Weaving, Quilling, Pop-Up, and Other Inventive Techniques by Helen Hiebert is a unique book full of paper creations for children to adults. Well designed and the steps are greatly appreciated which encourages anyone from a beginner paper artist to an experienced paper artist. Ideal for those rainy days, family time on the weekends or even to do by oneself or as a group of friends or family during short or long holiday breaks. Envelopes, paper gift boxes can be created in the correct size to put in your created pieces to send. Instructions that guide you to the correct tools, paper and other much needed equipment or tools to complete the paper art. I’m certainly going to buy the actual book and keeping on the art, craft and hobbies section of the bookshelf. A paper art book I recommended for any family who loves to create paper art, crafts and hobbies or families who wish to begin a new way to create paper art and interact and communicate in togetherness. First, I would like to extend thanks to Net Galley and Storey Publishibng for providing this book without charge in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. This book was a nice surprise! Paper is one of my “life loves”. I love the feel of paper texture and I’m always on the lookout for unique paper types, especially when using paper for cards for special people in my life. I loved severa things about this book:

The Folding chapter provides eight projects for a variety of ways to fold a piece of paper. Each project comes with written instructions alongside photographs for each of the steps in the written part. It tells you also the size of paper required if any tools are needed or templates.

Our Bestselling Pottery Books

This book is full of projects for crafters of all levels, and I look forward to trying out some of these ideas. I thank NetGalley and the publisher, Storey Publishing, LLC for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion. I gave this book three and a half stars rounded down to three stars. Years ago, Hiebert acquired a century-old paper-making mold used in the day when specialized artisans made the writing tools one sheet at a time. Hiebert was fascinated by this age-old process and could not help but dip her hands into the mushy liquid past and feel first-hand what it was like to spend hours and days creating a simple sheet of paper. From that point, she was in love with the intricate possibilities that arose for paper-making art. And clearly, she is a master at working with a unique art form.

I wish there had a been a bit more to Chapter 7. I think it would have been nice to see a few projects or suggestions for trying out various paper decorating techniques. There are several little sidebars featuring tidbits and pictures of the works of various other artists which are quite lovely and inspirational too. Paper is not only a means to convey information or images, but is also used as a medium in architecture, jewelry making, crafts, and even fashion. Hiebert’s well organized manual shows (both in written directions and pictures!) how cutting, folding, twisting, weaving, crumpling, and even tearing can turn a single sheet into unbelievable forms. She starts with paper sources, including how to make your own.I liked the layout: a comprehensive introduction with tools, sourcing, supplies, and more is followed by the tutorials arranged by craft - folding, cutting, construction, and papermaking and surface treatments. Each of the tutorials contains a description with methods and techniques, tools and supplies list in a highlighted text box (measurements in American standard units), and step by step instructions accompanied by photographs. From the introduction: “Helen Hiebert is a seasoned author artist, papermaker, and teacher who has created a comprehensive exploration of paper arts in The Art of Papercraft. This book will prove to be an excellent resource for teachers and students alike… All of the projects are fun one-sheet wonders that introduce essential cutting, folding and assembly techniques. Each project is simple enough for beginners while being sufficiently sophisticated for the seasoned crafter.” Hiebert treats us to full-color renditions of her paper-thin fine art, beautifully photographed and presented for all of us to admire. Like a cookbook, this author shares the necessary tools, techniques, and methods for creating paperwork masterpieces. Then she instructs, informs, and inspires.
