Volkswagen T1 Camper Van was released during 2011, introducing the appealing selection of larger-scale vehicles which remains successful today. If you manage to get through the entire build though, you’re left with a stunning vehicle – albeit one you’re probably going to be scared to touch, for fear it might just crumble in your hands. Suffice to say, it’s much more eye-catching than the T1 Camper Van, in my opinion anyway, and the additional detail in the interior really adds a wow factor. Play or display?

This LEGO Volkswagen T2 Camper Van set is part of a range of creative building sets designed for adult building fans who love stunning design, intricate details and elegant architecture. That being said, the build experience for all three of those sets was way higher than what is on offer here. If you value the part count and final design over the enjoyment garnered from actually building the thing, then this should be classed as a bit of a bargain.However, the fragile nature of the build takes away from the sense that this is a premium product. — Pictures — LEGO large-scale vehicles have become increasingly accurate during recent years, benefiting from the growing selection of curved slopes and similar pieces which are particularly important when constructing vehicles. 10279 Volkswagen T2 Camper Van certainly makes superb use of those elements, especially across the front and along the flanks where the bodywork gradually tapers inwards. While both door mechanisms are inconspicuous, the interior remains apparently unfinished in other areas. For instance, numerous colourful elements are present beside the steering wheel, even though covering these pieces would have been simple. Their exposure is therefore rather disappointing, especially since lavish detail appears elsewhere inside the Camper Van. I don't really understand why they chose to release another VW T2. IMHO opinion, the first generation is more iconic and the 10220 Lego model looked (and still looks) great! Moreover, I have some issues with this new model:Overall, I have to be harsh: If you want to build a good-looking van and don't mind a struggle, this is a good set. If you want an accurate model of the T2: nope. There is potential for a great set, but there are too many bumps in the road. Slope, Curved 2 x 1 Inverted in Dark Orange (6339914 | 24201) introduced ín 2021, in two other sets Furthermore, the vibrant colour combination of white and medium azure looks great. Not only does that contrast beside past Creator Expert and 18+ vehicles, which is advantageous when displaying them together, but medium azure replicates the lovely 'pastel blue' bodywork shade that was available for the T2 Camper Van. Of course, the vehicle also comprises various parts which are newly appearing in this colour. This is a tough one. As I said, I really want to love this set, but it is making it hard to do that.

Measures over 6 in. (15 cm) high, 13.5 in. (35 cm) long and 5.5 in. (14 cm) wide, making an eye-catching display model. Inevitable comparisons will be drawn between 10279 Volkswagen T2 Camper Van and 10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van. That might prove challenging because the T1 design is probably more famous than its successor, although I think their relative accuracy is approximately equal because both models succeed in certain areas while significant compromises are necessary in others. It would have set the mood for the model beautifully, but instead it’s the same old box art that fans have been presented with for well over a year and a half now. Snooze. This set is part of a collection of LEGO building sets for adults who appreciate clever design and attention-to-detail. It offers an immersive build and will make a top gift for any VW van fan.

The front indicators and small rear lights indicate that this model represents the pre-1972 T2a ("Early Bay") model. Echoing what others have said, I think that the look of the T2b with the high mounted indicators is more recognizable. Volkswagen T1 Camper Van incorporated an ingenious pop-up roof section, recreating an important feature from the famous van. The new model includes a similar function as lifting the roof panel reveals an orange fabric component underneath. Several variants of the pop-up roof were produced in reality and this example seems accordingly realistic, although there is a noticeable gap between the roof and the fabric towards the front. The subject of today is the Volkswagen T2 Camper Van, the successor of the T1. To make things complicated: The entire series of Camper Vans is called Typ 2. The T1 is the first model in this series, and started production in March 1950, and the 2nd (T2) generation followed in 1967. The T2 is best known as the Love Bug, being used a lot by hippies (and other cultures) to travel from music festival to music festival, and as the perfect van to transport your surfboard to the beach. For some reason, I have always loved the looks of this van. I don't know what it is, but it just looks right. To be clear: I love the looks. No way I'm ever traveling in it. Most people would find the van 'cozy'. For me, that just means cramped. I'm purely going by looks. So as I said: I really want to love this set.
